Resurfacing once more

This is my new home on the Web, so welcome! Here you can discover a little bit about who I am, what I do, what I’ve published, my photographic view of the world and oh so much more.

I want this to be a place to share not only my personal musings, poems, personal essays and other creative offerings, but also my thoughts on what I do for a living and the technology industry I cover on a daily basis. As much as I hate to admit it, I can’t ignore that part of my life, even though my deepest passions lie elsewhere. Still, I suspect Isn’t It Pretty To Think So? will end up being a far more personal blog than it will be a professional one.

If you’ve guessed that the title comes from “The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway, you’re probably a literary geek like me. It’s one of my all-time favorite novels, and I chose this quote as the title because I think it suits my writing style and general philosophy.

This quote represents to me the ironic distance we place between what we wish would happen in our lives and what we know will never be. I feel sometimes like I exist in this space and, no matter how much my life falls into the “what will never be” category, I somehow always keep wishing. There is so much to love in this world, so much to celebrate. Despite all of our missteps and disappointments, our heartbreaks and unrealized dreams, there is always the possibility of magic.

These days, I like to think of life as an ocean–constantly moving, full of possibilities, glorious and perilous at the same time. Right now I want to let it carry me away and see where I wash ashore.

I hope you will float along with me for at least part of this journey.
